AuthorFernald, Merritt Lyndon and Alfred C. Kinsey.
TitleEdible Wild Plants of Eastern North America.
  Publication2nd ed. New York: Dover Publications, 1996. 452p. $14.95pa. ISBN 0486291049 pa.
Description1,000 species of edible plants, 60 poisonous; line drawings. The first edition of this classical work was published in 1943 (and this revised edition in 1958) by a well-known botanist and the even better-known entomologist and sex researcher. Modern users should be careful when using the book, however, since we now know more about the edibility of the plants. Fernald also includes ethnographic descriptions of the use of the plants so it's still a fascinating read. The second edition was revised by Reed C. Collins.
